Residents of Newton County,

I will be retiring as Newton County’s Tax Commissioner effective Oct. 1, 2019. Chief Deputy Tax Commissioner, Dana Darby will be sworn in to be Tax Commissioner to fulfill my term, which ends Dec. 31, 2020.

It has been my honor to serve the citizens of Newton County for more than 34 years, including the past 20 years as Tax Commissioner. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to do so.

During my tenure as tax commissioner I am proud to say we accomplished much, including:

  • Implementing online renewal for motor vehicles,
  • Participating the County in registration renewals using the KIOSK at more than 39 Georgia location sites available at
  • Adding a KIOSK in Newton County located at Kroger 5341 Hwy 20 South Covington, GA 30016
  • Utilizing for viewing, searching and paying property taxes
  • Cross-training employees in property tax and motor vehicle tax
  • Consistently remaining under the annual approved budget
  • Consistently getting approval of the county digest following an annual presentation to the state of Georgia

The Tax Commissioner office of Newton County continues to do good things for the citizens of Newton County and is in the process of opening up a satellite office. The new satellite office will be located in the Sheriff’s Office West Precinct in the Kroger Shopping Center on Salem and Kirkland roads.

This new precinct will help assist a growing population and tax base. As you can see throughout the last few years Newton County’s Property Tax base has grown and the Tax Commissioner’s Office has worked hard to maintain strong collection rates.

Along with property taxes, the Newton County Tax Commissioner’s Office has also worked through three motor vehicle changes. The Tax Commissioner’s Office has helped with the move from April 1 deadline for registration renewals, a transition to replace license plates every 5-7 years, the birthday tax, moving to the GRATIS system and now to the TAVT renewals and the new DRIVES system.

It has been an eventful but fulfilling 20 years serving as your Tax Commissioner. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve Newton County.
