Lidl Distribution Center to bring 270 jobs to Newton County

NEWTON COUNTY, GA - Newton County will soon be home to a regional distribution center of Lidl US, a leading grocery retailer. The new project will create 270 full-time jobs and bring a $100 million investment to Newton County.

Governor Brian Kemp announced the new 925,000 square-foot facility Friday morning.

 “I am grateful for Lidl’s investment in Georgia and the tremendous opportunities that it will create for hardworking Georgians in Newton County,” said Governor Kemp. “Our logistics infrastructure puts domestic and international markets within arm’s reach, and leading brands from around the world are taking notice. As the No. 1 State for Business for seven years running, Georgia’s ability to support international companies looking to expand their U.S. footprint is unmatched.”

The Lidl US distribution center and regional headquarters will be located in Newton County near the Rockdale County Line on the south side of I-20.

“This is great news for Newton County,” Newton County Chairman Marcello Banes said. “What a great way to start the new year by bringing almost 300 jobs to Newton County. We are excited for Lidl to call Newton County home and be part of OneNewton.”

Newton County’s Office of Economic Development began the project on Jan. 10, 2019 with a Request for Proposal. The ED office and partners including the office of Governor Brian Kemp, Newton County, Newton County Industrial Development Authority, City of Covington, Georgia Power, Newton County Water and Sewerage Authority, Thomas & Hutton Engineering, GDOT, Atlanta Gas & Light, City of Covington Electric, Snapping Shoals EMC, AT&T, The Mansfield Group and property owners.

“We look forward to breaking ground on Lidl’s fourth regional distribution center in the U.S. and hiring hundreds of new team members in Georgia,” said Lidl US Chairman Roman Heini in a release from the Governor’s office. “This centrally located facility will allow us to efficiently deliver outstanding quality products to our customers at the lowest possible prices and expand our network of stores across the region. We thank Governor Brian Kemp and local leaders for their tremendous support during this process.”

Lidl US has opened four stores in Georgia and hired more than 150 employees in Augusta, Mableton, Marietta, and Snellville. Lidl first established its U.S. headquarters in Virginia in June 2015 and operates more than seventy stores across nine East Coast states.
