The Newton County Board of Commissioners approved a contract to begin construction on Fire Station No. 4 during its Regular Meeting on March 2.
Sunbelt Builders was unanimously approved for a contract of $2,652,155 to build the station located at 1200 Hwy. 213. The 9,150 square-foot fire station will include three apparatus bays, a cascade room, decontamination area and living space.
The addition of the station will provide more public safety coverage and go toward reducing insurance premiums for area residents.
The Board of Commissioners (BOC) first discussed the project in January of 2020 shortly after it was discovered residents’ insurance premiums were increased due to International Organization for Standardization (ISO) determining some residents on the east side of the County did not live within five road miles of a fire station
The BOC then voted to move forward with Fire Station No. 4 on Feb. 4 and approved the purchase of land on Hwy. 213 on July 21.
Construction on Fire Station No. 4 will begin in March.
