Newton County Fire Service personnel from Station 1 and an EMS crew went on a special house call Tuesday morning that may not have been possible without their actions just six days earlier.
On March 17, the crew of Engine 1 was on call at Station 1 when a call went out for an adult male having chest pains in Porterdale.
After arriving, the crew of TJ Parten and Cody Madsen, found a 79-year old male who went into cardiac dysrhythmia.
Along with the crew of Newton EMS Medic 5, the Newton County Fire Services (NCFS) crew quickly applied an AED and the patient was shocked. After the patient was shocked three more times in the back of an ambulance, he was transported to Piedmont Newton, assisted by NCFS personnel on his way.
Thanks to the quick action of the men and women who responded to the call, the patient was brought back.
Less than a week later, the patient’s grandson, Michael Patterson and his wife brought some sweet treats to thank the fire and EMS crews at Station 1. Following that visit, the crews went to Porterdale and met the patient, Jerry Patterson, at his home where he thanked them for their quick thinking and heroic actions.
The responding crews were: Firefighters Parten and Madsen of Engine 1 and Jimmy Davis and Odessa Johnson of Medic 5.
