The Newton County Splash Pad, located at Denny Dobbs Park, opens May 29 at 10 a.m.
The County’s first splash pad was built thank to funds from the 2017 Special Purpose Local Option Sales tax and is available free to all Newton County residents.
Children of all ages can cool off under a giant water bucket, run through fountains and water cannons every Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. during the summer.
The Splash Pad is located at 6244 Highway 212, Covington Ga.
A ribbon ceremony was held Thursday, May 20 to recognize the new park feature that was completed before the pandemic limited group activities.
Newton County Chairman Marcello Banes thanked all who made the splash pad possible, including Recreation Director Dwayne Mask, District 2 Commissioner Demond Mason, former District 2 Commissioner Lanier Sims, Aqua Dynamics and Harrison Kirkham, a Newton County Eagle Scout whose vision the project was.
