Upper Oconee Watershed Flood Map Revisions

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) made revisions to its Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) for the Upper Oconee Watershed. Revisions to these mapping products may affect residents and business owners in unincorporated Newton County and Newborn.

The area generally affected in Newton County is east of Highway 11.

Preliminary updated FIRMS for Newton County can be found at hazards.fema.gov/femaportal/prelimdownload

A virtual meeting is available by appointment only and can be reserved on the website, via the "connect with us" page of the virtual flood map open house. Appointments will be held between April 25-29. Please reserve your appointment between April 11-22. After this, owners of affected properties will have a 90-day appeal period. The new FIRMs are anticipated to go into effect in Spring of 2023.
