The Miracle Field Complex opened on April 25, 2015. We here at the Newton County Recreation Department are very excited about the opening of this wonderful complex.
Amenities
The Miracle Field complex houses an 125 foot fully-accessible Miracle Field (specifically designed to allow all children, youth, and adults regardless of any disability the opportunity to play baseball). Additionally, the complex also houses a second, multi-purpose, 225 foot artificial turf baseball field for able-bodied children/youth. An accessible playground for all children, as well as a concession/restroom building and batting cages, round out the complex.
With the addition of these two new fields, City Pond Park has 8 fields for children, youth, and adults of all abilities to use and enjoy.
The complex has a custom-designed field with a cushioned rubberized surface to help prevent injuries, wheelchair accessible dugouts, and a completely flat surface to eliminate any barriers to wheelchair-bound or visually impaired players. Accessible restrooms, a concession stand, and picnic pavilion have all been incorporated into this design. The complex has been built at City Pond Park in Covington.
Recreational Programs
Miracle League Baseball is the first of hopefully many future therapeutic recreational programs offered at the Miracle Field complex.
Partnerships
Newton County Recreation Department, Covington Rotary Club, Covington Kiwanis Club, The Covington & Oxford Lions' Clubs and The Friends of Newton Parks joined together in partnership in building the first ever Miracle League Field in Newton County.
